The 5G Winner? The Cell Phone Tower Companies!

With the rush to expand into 5G — the newest wireless telecommunications protocol (i.e.: 5th Generation) — there will be only one clear winner: the companies that own cell phone towers. 5G features high data rates, reduced delay (latency), higher system capacity, and massive device connectivity. In other words, 5G is designed to meet, today and tomorrow, the increasing demands of both businesses and consumers.

As CNN recently reported, cell phone carriers (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.) “need to lease space from the tower owners in order to install antennas, small cells and other wireless equipment for their networks.” The Telecommunications Industry Association estimates that “Data demand is outpacing the ability to build out infrastructure. The need today is for more critical infrastructure to be developed, particularly as some estimates say that 5G will require 13 times the number of towers than we have today in order to support this infrastructure.”

The impact of this is an increased demand for tower space which, in turn, is driving up business for cell phone tower companies.
