Looks Like Dolly Was Right
In this year’s Super Bowl, website design company Squarespace, ran a commercial featuring Dolly Parton singing a re-do of her 70s hit 9 to 5. It was called 5 to 9 and spoke of the new gig economy, side hustlers and dreamers. It also made very evident that people don’t work 9 to 5 anymore.
Salesforce, the CRM company, has proclaimed that “the 9 to 5 workday is dead.” Instead, it is now offering its employees 3 different workday options:
Flex – When it’s safe to return to the office, most of the employees around the globe will work flex. This means they’ll be in the office 1-3 days per week for team collaboration, customer meetings, and presentations.
Fully Remote – For employees who don’t live near an office or have roles that don’t require an office, they will work remotely full-time.
Office-based – The smallest population of the workforce will work from an office location 4-5 days per week if they’re in roles that require it.
The most interesting part, to me, is that the traditional office-based 9-5 worker will be the smallest of the three populations.
What will your business look like when the pandemic begins to wane away? How will your perceptions of how your employees work differ from the employees’ perceptions? Can you use this change in the workplace to better your business?
